This is what I'm doing right now.

So, as there isn't long now till I'm be back at uni, it's time to step up the summer project work.

Here's some screen shots of what I've been working on today, some of it is just testing the water but I feel the aesthetic is coming together nicely. I've got a few more elements and ideas I've got to sort out but I'm also trying to make sure there's an arc to the video and the idea comes through properly.

Animation tests and other things.

Something I was working on last night, into the early hours of the morning. I was up till 5am and I have no idea why, it seems I do my best experimenting at night!

I started off from sketches and a few ideas I'd had and used Illustrator and Photoshop to build the images and create the animation. Again, this is all part of my summer project '5 words' and I'm planning on creating a few of these short graphical animations and using them in the final video.

The idea is to build up an array of graphical elements and moving pieces of text to create a sense of a visually overloaded world. That's all I'm telling you at the moment!

Here are some screen grabs just to get an idea of the working process.

Noah Harris - Talk Talk Ads

This ad is really quite cool. I love the colour palette, I admire the technique and work that's gone into it. The art direction and execution is brilliant (everything was done 'in camera') and the man behind the work was Noah Harris, one of my favourite desingers/art directors out there.

When I first saw these ads a kind of had a feeling they were done by Harris. They certainly felt like his kind of work, based on similar style and aesthetics of his previous work on the E4 idents. However, I wasn't sure until I had a browse on Harris' site today just to see what he'd been up to.

It's always completely inspiring to see what he's been up to and it always seems to jettison me off onto something exciting in my own work. Anyway! Links...

Here's the link to his page about the work:

Here's some production stills:

And here's the ad:

testfootage

An example of some techniques that I'll be using to complete my video.

And now for something completely different...

Some sketchbook shots!

Here are some shots of pages out of my summer project sketchbook to show how mad I've been going with the writing.

It feels like it's all coming together though now. I'm nowhere near finished but everything is coming into place and it could be an exciting piece of work, hopefully!

I'll be posting some more test video stuff I've been doing today too just to give to give more of an idea of what I'm trying to do!

Heavy Metal Fox

Something a bit silly I've been working on, as a request from my brother. It's eventually going to be on a t-shirt, but after a little more work and perhaps a bit of colour.

The eyes aren't doing it for me at the moment but I'm happy with the style of it. To say I don't do much drawn illustration, it's come out pretty good!

Friends who follow, please crit! Do your worst haha.

Skullage

Getting back into doing some collage and I like skulls. Not sure what the idea is but it looks pretty cool.

Something really terrible, but...

...As I have nothing to hide, and I'm using this blog as I would a sketchbook, here is a really really short clip of an attempt to animate some text. Did I mention it's pretty bad?

Also, out of context and with no idea about my idea and intention of the effect, it probably looks totally random and perhaps worse.

Reading this might help though:

"Basically I want to try and animate some text and preferably I'd do it by hand but using Photoshop is quicker and is something I haven't done before. I plan to use a mix of stop frame animation and computer animation to create a short film based around the word 'Alienation'. I'm going for a 'screen breaking down and video becoming blurry' kind of thing and the RGB from the monitor playing up a bit. Anyway - first try!"

Well it's done anyway and it's the first thing I've ever posted in HD on Youtube so I'm pretty happy with that at least haha.
