Design It Yourself WSA Live Brief

I had the amazing opportunity recently to be invited back to WSA to set a live brief on behalf of Red Design. The brief I set was called 'Design It Yourself' which was supposed to get the students thinking more like creative entrepreneurs. The students were asked to come up with an idea that 'does good for their creative community', that could expose the talents of themselves and their peers so that it could potentially provide them both with income in the future.

I used examples such as 'Threadless', 'Tattly' & 'Little White Lies' to show how their creative skills could be used to come up with businesses for themselves.

I have posted a few articles on the Red website that go in to a little more detail but you can see a few pics & Vines from those articles below.

Why I won't be using Instagram video.

My thoughts are this, whilst Instagram video has some interesting features that Vine does not, I like Vine because of it's simplicity. There are no filters, just immediate, raw video and that actually feels really contemporary and refreshing.

And I like the fact that Instagram is just images. I follow people on Instagram because I want to see their photographs. I go on Vine and follow people on Vine specifically to see their videos. Now I have to look at both in one feed? What if I love someones photos but their videos annoy the hell out of me? That would kinda put me off Instagram altogether.

It's not that I hate change, it's just I think Instagram is perfect the way it is and Vine is perfect the way it is. They're two very different things, and I don't think Instagram, or more importantly Facebook, understand that.

But that's just me.

Edit: Here's an example!

Vine is this:

Instagram video is this:

Wait... I can't even embed them. I'll give you an idea - it was someone doing a selfie for 5 seconds.

London Jazz Festival 2013

I'm so excited to let you all know that Red have been working on the identity for this years London Jazz Festival. Perhaps my most favourite pitch win ever! It's been a real treat to work on this and I can't wait to start rolling the identity out across posters and brochures. I think it's going to turn out really great, and there's loads of potential for future application. So here it is. The 4 bars represent 4 staves and the 7 colours represent the notes in a scale, the 1st colour being repeated of course for the 8th note, just like an octave!

The incredible Kurt Elling alongside my logo. He gave us an incredible low key performance. It will live long in my memory. Watch this space for more!
